The increasing share of inverter-based resources (IBRs) into the power system has brought stability challenges that hinder further IBR integration and energy sector decarbonization. These instabilities relate to the inverters operating as either current sources or voltage sources, neither of which is appropriate for all conditions. UNIFORM aims to bridge this gap by unifying these two marginal operating modes into a universal control framework that features combined voltage- and current-source properties for improved stability. This proof-of-concept project aspires to unlock the true potential of inverters towards materializing our ambitious energy transformation targets.
The project is funded by UKRI (EP/Y001575/1) and partners University of Southampton, Institute of Communication and Computer Systems NTUA (ICCS-NTUA), National Energy System Operator and Smart Power Networks.
