Accelerating Europe’s Transition to Digital Circular Manufacturing
The Remanufacturing-X project aims to transform European manufacturing by accelerating the adoption of intelligent, sustainable and circular remanufacturing practices. By integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI), Digital Twins, Digital Product Passports and secure data-sharing infrastructures, the project will develop an interoperable ecosystem that enables manufacturers to recover product value, optimise resource utilisation and extend the lifecycle of industrial products and materials.
Coordinated by UNINOVA and funded under the Horizon Europe programme, Remanufacturing-X brings together research organisations, universities, technology providers and industrial partners to develop and demonstrate innovative remanufacturing solutions. The project will establish a dedicated Remanufacturing Data Space, deploy AI-powered decision-support tools and introduce a digital B2B marketplace for circular products and services. Its solutions will be validated through five industrial pilots spanning the textile, brewing, industrial machinery, maritime and battery sectors, promoting cross-sector replication and industrial uptake.
The Institute of Communication and Computer Systems (ICCS), through its Decision Support Systems Laboratory, plays a key role in advancing the project’s AI-driven solutions and sustainability assessment capabilities. ICCS leads the development of the Remanufacturing Circularity Scoring System (ReCiSE), enabling transparent assessment of product circularity, and the AI-Powered Service Matching Engine, facilitating intelligent matchmaking between industrial stakeholders and remanufacturing service providers. ICCS also leads the development of policy recommendations for inclusive technology adoption and contributes to digital process optimisation, sustainability analytics and the maritime demonstration activities.
Through its integrated technological and human-centric approach, Remanufacturing-X seeks to strengthen European industrial competitiveness, improve resource efficiency and support the transition towards a climate-neutral circular economy.
