Big data meeting Cloud and IoT for empowering the citizen clout in smart cities.  Leverages on three key technology enablers, Internet of Things (IoT), cloud computing and big data, for the objective of increasing the efficiency in using urban infrastructure, economic and natural resources shared by the increasing population. As the technical coordinator, ICCS  led the user requirements task of the project and the definition of the platform architecture.  ICCS’s contribution related with smart analytics, data-adaptive machine learning techniques, the incorporation of techniques complex event processing and recommendation services supporting the various use cases.

ACTivating InnoVative IoT smart living environments for AGEing well. Builds the first European IoT ecosystem across 9 Deployment Sites (DS) in seven European countries, reusing and scaling up underlying open and proprietary IoT platforms, technologies and standards, and integrating new interfaces needed to provide interoperability across these heterogeneous platforms. A local IoT platform based on FIWARE components was setup by ICCS and connected to the device infrastructure along with relevant services for the scopes of the Greek mobility scenario. Support was provided for pilot deployment and home installations of the smart home solution at the municipality of Metamorfosis, Greece.

Data-intensive applications Improvement by moving daTA and computation in mixed cloud/fog environments.Proposes a framework, composed by an SDK and an execution environment, which aims to overcome the barriers that now hamper the adoption of Cloud Computing and increase the adoption of Fog computing by exploiting the full potential of these two paradigms in a synergic way. ICCS ‘role is focused in the design and development of virtual data containers (VDC) which act as abstraction models for the management of large data sources.

Performance optimization and edge computing orchestration for enhanced experience and Quality of Service. Provides a new architectural model as well as a set of software tools that will prepare the future development of the next generation of edge computing and apply results in the application fields of manufacturing, mixed reality and smart cities. ICCS was the technical coordinator of the project, led the work on architecture through and the task related to standardisation. ICCS provided the prototypes of 3ALib, Benchmarking Suite GUI and Profiling/Classification tools contributing to the benchmarking and usage of that data for application management and provider selection processes.

Adaptive edge/cloud compute and network continuum over a heterogeneous sparse edge infrastructure to support nextgen applications. Associates edge computing with advanced technologies such as 5G, the EU to capitalize on local resources and infrastructure and settle  a practical approach in connecting edge resources and infrastructures to support next-generation applications. ICCS contributed to the design and development of functionalities for the optimal allocation of application services on top of Cloud-Edge resources.

Assessing the State of the Art and Supporting an Evidence-Based Uptake and Evolution of Open Service Platforms in the Active and Healthy Ageing Domain Studies the whole range of open service platforms and their related networks, generates synergies among them, creates monitoring and evaluation toolkits, while promoting interoperability and defining guidelines for the common  evolution of such platforms. A pair of interoperating modular tools were designed and implemented by ICCS, which can be used by open platform providers and technology developers in the domains of AAL for the collection, analysis and visualisation of information regarding the measurement, assessment and comparison of the performance of open service platforms.

HARMONIzation and integrative analysis of regional, national and international Cohorts on primary Sjögren’s Syndrome (pSS) towards improved stratification, treatment and health policy making . Creates and maintains a platform with open standards and tools, designed to enable secure storage,governance, analytics, access control and controlled sharing of information at multiple levels along with methods to make results of analyses and outcomes comparable across centers and sustainable through Rheumatology associations. ICCS developed software tools and mechanisms enabling authorized users to further examine their cohort data, align terminologies being used with international standards and codifications (efficiently dealing with both structural and semantic mismatches), express their data using a common data model and securely store them in separate data sources that share a common schema and vocabularies.

Development of a Support System for Improved Resilience and Sustainable Urban areas to cope with Climate Change and Extreme Events based on GEOSS and Advanced Modelling Tools Machine learning/deep learning techniques to develop a modular, scalable, data-driven, multi-layer knowledge base of urban areas to combat climate change. ICCS is responsible for the development of the cloud infrastructure that hosts the project tools and the validation of their functionality.

Hundreds of different European seaports collaborate with each other, exchanging different digital data from several data sources. However, to achieve efficient collaboration and benefit from AI-based technology, a new integrating environment is needed. The EU-funded DataPorts project will design an Industrial Data Platform. The Cognitive Ports Data Platform will connect existing digital infrastructures of seaports and their systems, will set rules on safe and reliable data sharing and trading, and offer powerful services of data analytics. That will allow to create different smart applications according to related requirements. Before full implementation in European ports, the platform will be implemented in two European seaports. The platform will make European seaports trusted, strong and integrated.

Blockchains in the new era of participatory media experience. Extends the use of the blockchain technology to handle different online user transactions, provide an innovative way of content creation, sharing, personalized consumption, monetization and copyrighting. ICCS acted as the scientific and technical coordinator of the project. Its contribution was focused on the design of Bloomen architecture in resource management methodologies for decentralized resources in P2P networks and their combination with blockchain technologies and the anonymous personalization and identity management through privacy enhancing techniques on top of the blockchains.
