<h2 class="wp-block-heading">A3D Photonic integration platform based on multilayer PolyBoard and TriPleX technology for optical switching and remote sensing and ranging applications</h2>



<p class="has-text-align-right"><strong>[January 2018 – June 2021]</strong></p>



<p>PCRL coordinated the <a href="https://www.ict-3peat.eu/">3PEAT project</a>. 3PEAT developed a powerful photonic integration technology with all size, functionality and quality credentials in order to help a broad range of optical applications like optical switching and remote sensing, to achieve a strong commercial impact. In order to do so, the project introduced a fully functional 3D photonic integration platform based on the use of multiple waveguiding layers and vertical couplers in a polymer technology (PolyBoard), as a means to disrupt the integration scale and functionality. Moreover, 3PEAT combined this powerful 3D photonic technology with a silicon-nitride platform (TriPleX), via the development of a methodology for the deposition and processing of multilayer polymers inside etched windows on TriPleX chips. In parallel with the development of this hybrid 3D technology, 3PeaT brought a number of key innovations at the integration and component level relating to:</p>



<p>a) the heterogeneous integration of PZT films on TriPleX platform for development of phase shifters and switches for operation up to 50 MHz,</p>



<p>b) the development of a disruptive external cavity laser on the same platform with linewidth less than 1 kHz,</p>



<p>c) the development for the first time of an integrated circulator on PolyBoard with isolation more than 25 dB, and</p>



<p>d) the development of flexible types of PolyBoards for the purpose of physical interconnection of other PICs. This enormous breadth of innovations can remove the current limitations and unleash the full potential of optical switching and remote sensing and ranging applications. The main switching module that was fabricated was a 36×36 optical switch with 20 ns switching time and possibility for power and cost savings of almost 95% compared to standard electronic solutions. The main sensing module on the other hand was a disruptive Laser Doppler Vibrometer (LDV) with all of its optical units, including its optical beam scanning unit, integrated on a very large, hybrid 3D PIC.</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<h2 class="wp-block-heading">The second cycle of the workshop series for the development and enhancement of research and innovation in Greece has successfully completed</h2>
<p>Can we imagine and create an ecosystem that connects excellence and innovation without exclusions? What do Greek universities need to produce innovation for a global audience, but with a focus on their own strengths and the enhancement of local communities? What does innovation mean for research and how can we unleash the power that knowledge communities hold?</p>
<p class=" translation-block">The <a href="https://campaigns.sgt.gr/t/j-l-edrujyd-ittujdwhj-j/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Onassis Foundation</a>, the Sectoral Scientific Council (SSC) of Technology Transfer and Intellectual Property of the <a href="https://campaigns.sgt.gr/t/j-l-edrujyd-ittujdwhj-t/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">National Council for Research, Technology and Innovation (NCRTI)</a> and the <a href="https://campaigns.sgt.gr/t/j-l-edrujyd-ittujdwhj-i/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Uni.Fund</a> organized for the second year a series of workshops on the Business Exploitation of Research and the Technology Transfer in Greek Universities and Research Centers. From December 2022 to April 2023, four separate workshops were held at the Stegi and the Technology Transfer, Innovation and Entrepreneurship Unit (ACEin) of the Athens University of Economics.<br />

<p>Following the completion of the first period of operation of the Technology Transfer Structures, the second workshop of the 2nd Tech Transfer cycle examines the issue of the implementation of Technology Transfer Regulations and the role of Technology Transfer Offices and collaborative structures in research and university institutions. Six Technology Transfer Structures discuss issues and prospects in the field of research and innovation, their experiences from the new regulatory system as well as their suggestions for how we can achieve synergies and significantly enhance the Greek innovation system in universities and research centers.</p>

<p>How does research activity change as a result of the introduction of technology transfer structures and how can we imagine the field of research and innovation in the next decade as a result of these structures? The Onassis Foundation, continuing its presence in the field of innovation, together with the research and business ecosystem, seeks the appropriate ways and conditions for technology transfer actions to be able to bring about the substantial impact for which they have been designed. The third workshop in the series &#8220;Business Exploitation of Research and Technology Transfer&#8221; poses the essential question of how we see the future of Technology Transfer Structures over time, as well as how we can assess their success or failure. As the first phase of introducing the Technology Transfer Structures into the Greek system of research and innovation is completed, it is the right time to talk, not only about the desired, but also about the feasible, always aiming at unleashing forces and developing a sustainable environment for research and innovation.</p>

<p class="has-medium-font-size"><strong>WHAT IS TECH TRANSFER?</strong></p>
<p>Tech Transfer refers to a series of workshops addressing how the Business Exploitation of Research and Technology Transfer in Greece can be supported. The four meetings to be held at Stegi are a continuation of the Tech Transfer webinar series co-organized by Uni.Fund and the Onassis Foundation during the period November 2020 – May 2021.</p>
<p>In the second Tech Transfer, through four meetings, a creative dialogue opens up around how research conducted at Greek universities and research centers can be specifically supported by the new Technology Transfer Structures to lead to products and services, how it can be protected by patents and other intellectual property tools, and how it can ultimately generate value for all parties involved.</p>

<td width="262"><strong>Διάρκεια σύμβασης:</strong></td>
<td width="795">Το διάστημα απασχόλησης ορίζεται από την ολοκλήρωση της διαδικασίας επιλογής και μέχρι συνολικής διάρκειας <strong>6 μήνες</strong>.</p>
<p>Η σύμβαση δύναται να ανανεωθεί ή να παραταθεί χωρίς περιορισμό μετά από απόφαση του Δ.Σ. του ΕΠΙΣΕΥ και εφόσον υπάρχει η απαιτούμενη πίστωση στο έργο, χωρίς διενέργεια νέας Πρόσκλησης, μέχρι την ημερομηνία λήξης του έργου.</td>

<td width="262"><strong>Συνολικό κόστος σύμβασης:</strong></td>
<td width="795">Το συνολικό κόστος της σύμβασης ορίζεται έως του ποσού των <strong>2.400 €</strong> σύμφωνα με την προϋπολογισθείσα δαπάνη του προς ανάθεση έργου και τους όρους της χρηματοδότησης. Το ως άνω ποσό περιλαμβάνει την αμοιβή του δικαιούχου, πάσης φύσης νόμιμες κρατήσεις, ασφαλιστικές εισφορές εργοδότη, εφόσον ο δικαιούχος εμπίπτει στις διατάξεις του άρθρου 39 παρ. 9 του Ν. 4387/2016 και Φ.Π.Α. σε περίπτωση υπαγωγής του δικαιούχου σε καθεστώς Φ.Π.Α.</td>

<td width="262"><strong>Τρόπος παραλαβής του ανατεθέντος έργου:</strong></td>
<td width="795">Η ορθή εκτέλεση και ο έλεγχος του παραδοτέου έργου θα πιστοποιείται με βεβαίωση παραλαβής και καλής εκτέλεσης του έργου από μέρους του δικαιούχου, η οποία θα υπογράφεται από τον Επιστημονικό Υπεύθυνο.</td>
